M.S.Dhoni - a great player and an inspiring captain through a period of turmoil
Let us peep back to the end of India-England Winter 2012 series. India had lost the series against England by 1-2. Yet in the last test match, we saw two great innings by M.S.Dhoni and Virat kohli. Still, swords were out against his captaincy in all three forms of the game. Yet, come the ODI series against England and also the current series against Aussies. M.S.Dhoni's recent score of 224 of 265 balls against Australia in the first match in the current series has set the tone for India's two victories.
Also, his use of batting and bowling options is also proving good.
I agree that he perhaps needs to work more on nurturing pacers in India. Yet, he has been inspiring as a batsmen and a leader. He is giving good exposure to guys like Ravindra Jadeja, and Cheteshwar Pujara.
Some do accuse him of favoritism, yet with his class act of the double century, he seems to have silenced a lot of his critics. In ODIs too, he keeps coming up with some great innings.
And do remember that as a wicketkeeper, one needs a lot of energy to first keep wickets, and then score runs, along with leading the team. This at a time when great players like Rahul Dravid and V.V.S.Laxman have recently retired.
Hats off to Dhoni for leading the Indian team through this turbulent period of change.
