Bay Entrance to Kayangan Lake
Kayangan Lake can be accessed from Coron proper in about 30 minutes or less. To reach the entrance to the lake, you will need to pass through a channel bounded by tall rock formations that will make you feel as if you are entering a river. The waters inside, flanked by rocky outcrops are calmer than the exposed portion of the sea. The limestone formation that are grown with plants adapted to the poor soil further enhance your experience.If you gaze seaward, a breathtaking scene will unfold. Clear skies on a sunny day dramatizes the deep blue and green waters of the docking area where many tourist boats unload their passengers. If you are lucky enough, a swimming monitor lizard will greet you and give you the opportunity to take a close up shot.
Climbing the Concrete Steps to Kayangan
Accessing Kayangan Lake is not easy. You will need to huff and puff heavily while gradually climbing the steep concrete steps with handrails to hold on to prop you up. Surely, your heart will beat faster with each step made in the almost 70 degree incline. If you are exercising regularly, this will not really be much of a problem. But if you are the weighty type, then it would be quite a real challenge. The top of the hill can be reached in 10 minutes.Resting and Viewing Area
Halfway along the rugged pathway, tired visitors can sit awhile and enjoy the scenery. It is another perspective of the docking area showing a much more interesting sight that makes you want to take your picture with the landscape behind you. Just make sure you don't fall off the steep ravine.A few meters from resting area is a cave where you can feel the cool and damp atmosphere and have your picture taken in frames of stalactites and stalagmites. That will give you a taste of how a caveman lives.
Kayangan Lake Proper
After negotiating the rugged concrete steps down the steep incline, a breathtaking scene of Kayangan Lake greets you. Lots of tourists of different color and race frolic in the cool waters while some lazily wait along the wooden walkway or take pictures of interesting sections of the lake.The water is so clear that you can see the sandy bottom where occasionally small groups of fishes would approach you. The water appears to be sparklingly clean and irresistible. You just have to be careful because you might bump into the sharp edges of the lake. Look before you leap.
