Cervical Cancer

Surviving Cervical Cancer

Many years ago, when I was twenty-five, after going to the doctor for my routine yearly exam, I got a phone call from the doctor. Just the idea that the doctor was calling on the phone was a red flag. When everything is normal, I just get a card in the mail saying so. My doctor informed me that I showed a mass that would be determined later, was, in fact, Cervical Cancer. I was devastated. I had always had a problem with reoccurring ovarian cysts, but this was something I did not expect. I had just had my third child. An unplanned child, although after getting this news, we decided she was a blessing in disguise. I feel like it was known that at some point, I did want another child (a girl), and that's why God gave her to us when we got her. I was able to have a hysterectomy done, and it fully cured the cancer. I'm a healthy thirty-nine today. So never take your health for granted. To all women everywhere, please take the time, if at all possible, to have a pap smear and full exam done each year, because you never know what might be found, and ultimately, prevented.
