Been there Done that
I grew up in the seventies graduated mid eighties so I am well into my forties. I have heard the tall tales from my grandparents about walking five miles to school, uphill and one way even in the snow.
When I started working at age sixteen the older workers would say, 'You are such a baby walk a mile in my shoes'. I would just smile always remembering what my grandmother had said about being polite until you got to know people.
Then one day after I had started working in the meat department someone said it to me again and I spun around and said, 'You should try a mile in mine.' Granted I caused most of my despair, but also didn't need someone who didn't know me making light of a life they didn't know about.
I started going out with a group of them and we became friends. We would go out drinking and golfing together; sometimes both would mesh together. At the bar pow wows we would talk and joke around and that's when been there done that reared its' ugly head.
