How To Be A Good Fullback

Fullback: The Power Player

The number one way to be a good fullback, is to be BIG! Not 300 pounds of fat where you can't even move, but 200-250 pounds of muscle!! Fullbacks main job is to lead block for the running back and block any oncoming blitzes for the quarterback. Obviously, you would want a big, heavy set person for this job. I have played fullback for my high school football team for two years and I love it! I am 6' 0" and weigh 205 pounds of almost all muscle, I don't think I have any fat on me at all! My job is to fill the holes from blitzes and knock anybody that tries to touch our ball carrier. One thing I will say is that you have to love to hit to be a fullback!!

So You Want To Be A Fullback?

No body can just walk out there and say they are a pro fullback. Just like anything else, it takes a lot of practice and hard work. I spend all my summer and time off lifting weights and doing sprints. Why? Because I am dedicated to being a great fullback!! I drink a protein shake with every meal and eat mainly red meats and grains. Doing this has made me seriously bulk up over the Summer!!

Fullbacks Have To Be Smart!!

Most people think the fullback is the dumbest person on the team because of their size and how they basically just have to hit people. But, it takes a lot more than that to be a fullback!! Fullbacks have to know every play the quarterback calls and where to go for each play. If you line up wrong or run to the wrong hole, you can leave the ball carrier very exposed and get him easily tackled.
